Six artists come together to investigate the structures and traditions of classical music performance, and critique them through the lens of queer and gender theories. Examining representations of gender and sexuality in the classical music world, Savage Parade explores issues surrounding the rigidity of the gender binary and of the classical performance convention.
Contemporary performance makers work with classical musicians to explore how they would like to express themselves in terms of gender presentation and sexuality in performance. The investigation dreams up a realm beyond the hetero-cis-normative depictions that queer people are squeezed into on the classical stage, and thus in daily life.
Savage Parade started from a week intensive process, supported by the RCS, and is a work-in-progress.
